More parking for shoppers as prime location Blue Badge car park is made available to all

The Poplar Walk car park in Croydon, which has previously only been available to motorists in possession of a disabled Blue Badge, has been made available to the general public for the first time in an effort to support growing demand for space from motorists and local retailers.

Creative Car Park, a leading parking management company, has taken over the management of the car park which now costs £1 per hour or £5 for the entire day. The car park has been installed with the very latest Phone and Pay system from Bemrose Mobile, which already operates in numerous other nearby London Boroughs such as Bexley as well as throughout Surrey County Council, meaning that many motorists will already have registered their details to the service. The car park has also been installed with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology for added security and to help monitor the car park’s use.

A spokesperson for Creative Car Park said “Convenient parking is key to footfall for retailers and if people can’t park easily, they will simply go elsewhere. The Poplar Walk area of Croydon is at the heart of the Croydon prime retailing zone immediately opposite Marks and Spencer and the car park was simply not being utilised. We fully advocate the need to provide sufficient parking for disabled badge holders and the local council will be making provisions to ensure the opening of this car park to the general public does not have a detrimental impact on those less able.

However, having integrated new parking facilities in numerous car parks up and down the country, we know the positive impact that providing sufficient parking facilities and introducing more flexible payment methods with enforced restrictions can have on town centre prosperity. Since launching at the beginning of the month, we have already had a very positive response from the local retailers.”

The new Phone and Pay service will provide a quick, easy and safe way for motorists to pay for parking sessions via their mobile phone whilst offering useful features such as, text confirmation that parking has been booked and a reminder text when a parking session is due to expire.

Motorists will also benefit from the facility to extend parking sessions via phone, SMS or Smartphone application whilst away from their vehicle making parking more flexible and shopping more convenient.
