Creative transforms Bedford car park to reduce congestion

Creative Car Park, the parking management company, has been contracted to transform a busy car park in Bedford in order to reduce congestion by replacing the old barrier and pay-on-exit system with the latest alphanumeric keypad machine and Phone and Pay.

Given its proximity to the town centre, the Greyfriars car park was extremely busy throughout the day, meaning that vehicles often had to queue at the barrier before entering. It also only operated 6 days a week and closed early evening which was particularly detrimental to local businesses, many of which are open on Sundays.

With the new system, motorists are now able to enter the car park quickly and pay for parking by cash, phone, text or Smartphone application. The car park’s opening hours have also been extended to 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, providing an accessible and flexible car park. In addition, the Phone and Pay system aims to reduce crime by preventing motorists having to display the length of time they intend to be away from their vehicle as well as reduce maintenance costs caused by vandalism of parking barriers.

A spokesperson for Creative Car Park comments “It is important that parking systems keep up with technological advances in order to service local demand and expectations. The option to pay by cash will still remain for those that wish to, but the new system will end the stress of searching for the right change and make it easier for motorists to avoid a parking ticket if they are delayed at the shops or in a meeting as they can extend their parking session remotely via their phone.”

Creative has also been appointed to manage the Goldington Road council owned Bedford car park and they hope as they expand their services throughout the borough, parking will become increasingly easy for local residents.

Creative offer bespoke facilities and car park management including ANPR, Pay and Display, Pay on Foot, Manual Ticketing and many more services.

Major clients include Knight Frank, Jones Lang LaSalle, MJMapp, Morrisons, The co-operative, Royal London Insurance
