As Creative Car Park we’re always looking for ways to improve the service we provide for our clients. That’s why we’re replacing our on-site vehicle registration tablets with a smart new solution that lets visitors register for parking in seconds using their own phone.
But with up to 2,500 tablets having to be decommissioned, we also had an important question to consider: what happens to all these devices that our clients no longer require?
Rather than allowing perfectly usable technology to go to waste, we’re working with the registered charity Good Things Foundation and its technology reuse partner Reconome to give our tablets a second life. Wherever possible, the devices will be securely wiped, with all data permanently removed (in line with our security standards), then refurbished and donated to support people who may not have easy access to technology.
Digital exclusion is a very important issue. Right now, around 1.6 million UK adults don’t own a smartphone, tablet or laptop, leaving them cut off from jobs, services and everyday life online. When our clients return their tablets, they go directly to the Good Things Foundation’s National Device Bank, and through Reconome they will be distributed to people in the UK who need them most.
For us, improving our technology shouldn’t simply mean throwing the old tablets away. By finding a responsible route for our redundant equipment, we can deliver a better solution for our clients while helping others at the same time.
It’s a win all-round: new technology for our valued clients; a second life for our old devices; a positive impact beyond our car parks.
