The Queen Victoria Pub in Theydon Bois, Essex, has joined forces with Creative Car Park, a parking management company, to provide a solution to their ongoing parking issues by installing a bespoke ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) system. It has been designed to help the busy pub ensure there is adequate free parking for their customers and prevent it being used for other purposes.
The Queen Victoria is a popular haunt for locals, serving a selection of McMullen ales and good quality pub food. However, regulars at the pub say they were finding it increasingly difficult to park as local shoppers and commuters were using the car park to access the adjacent convenience store.
On entering the pub, customers will now be asked to key in their car registration number into a touch-screen keypad located inside the pub, which will then entitle them to park for as long as they are using The Queen Victoria’s facilities.
The contract to tackle the problem and manage the car park, in conjunction with McMullens, was awarded to Creative Car Park because of the company’s experience in adapting established management systems to the bespoke needs of individual sites. A spokesperson for Creative says “McMullens who run The Queen Victoria Pub were keen to uphold the needs of the local community as this is at the heart of their philosophy, but equally, they don’t want visitors to be discouraged by a lack of parking. Our operations and surveying teams have worked together to devise a parking system which will ensure the car park is used in the manner it was intended, available free parking for anyone going into The Queen Victoria pub. It will also enable them to monitor any motorists ignoring these terms.”
