This involves a number of initiatives including Phone and Pay, the installation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition Technology and a range of new payment options, all designed to improve the experience of shoppers and visitors.
Phone and Pay is now in place and operational across the town centre and ANPR technology will be installed at four multi-storey car parks in the town centre in the coming weeks.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “We are working extremely hard in Bedford Borough to show our town centre is open for business by attracting shoppers, visitors and new businesses. This includes investing in ways to make it easier and more convenient for everyone to visit the town centre.
“Our Free Parking Deal will be offering free parking for two hours every Saturday from 23rd November, in addition to extended opening hours at two of our multi-storey car parks and I am pleased that Bemrose Mobile are supporting our efforts to make Bedford town centre a vibrant and attractive town centre to all.”
A spokesperson for Bemrose Mobile says “Bedford Borough Council is investing in their town centre to boost local businesses and attract shoppers and visitors. We are delighted to be working with the Council to introduce our Phone and Pay system which offers a simple, fast and convenient way to pay for your parking while also minimising back office and running costs.”
